High Quality jewelry could be kept for a few generations. Long time ago, most of jewelry were 100% hand crafted and put more precious metal into one piece of jewelry. Mining Gemstones (like Rhodochrosite, Jade, Amethyst,...,etc) took millions of years to be formed. When the gemstones had been dug out and become pieces of jewelry, it could not be found the same one again. Some Gemstones are very fragile and soft, e.g. garnets,...,etc. Because of mining gemstones, they could not be replaced. So some used jewelry cost more.
